I Love Missionaries

I made this notebook 3 years ago for my brother serving an LDS mission in Jakarta, Indonesia. I realized I never took a picture of it. I found it today in his treasure box and decided to post it. It is in surprisignly good shape for having been in Indonesia (and for being owned by a male)! The back says "Called to Serve" in Indonesian.

I made this cute little guy a few months ago & sent it to my friend serving in France. Again, I don't know why I didn't post it earlier, but here it is! The final product had "called to serve" in French in the bottom left corner.

I love missionary work! I have a strong testimony of the work that is happening right now. I am grateful for all the full-time missionaries spreading the gospel (and the full-time member-missionaries). I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and know it is true 😊<3 amp="" font="" gospel="" is="" it="" know="" nbsp="" the="" true="">

HBD to mom :)

Last year I made this notebook for my mom. It is of the provo temple at an angle you can see the reflection pool, (my mom and dad were married in that temple August 5th 1988). We had just gotten back from Hawaii when I made it, so I was on an "Ohana" kick. The back says "families are forever" in Hawaii lingo :
Welllllll she used up all her pages in this one, and wanted a new one. I wanted to try a new technique with making gumwrappers look like flowers, and I had some fun making this one for her birthday:

Here's the front:

And the back (This is probably my favorite back I've ever done!)

I am ESPECIALLY excited about the veil. I didn't want it to be as bright as the silver gumwrapper, so I peeled a wrapper, and used the paper instead of the tin to make the veil! I might have to start doing that more often :)

Inspiration- Thank you Jason Hewlett!

HUGE fan girl moment for me this week. ðŸ˜œ This is the man who encouraged me as a little 7th grader that I am awesome, unique, & have divine gifts that I need to share. He was the first (besides mom of course) to make me feel awesome about making weird art with gumwrapper :) he's also the first speaker that I heard that made me want to be a motivational speaker. Within the last 6 or 7 years we have had a few interactions. I sent him this notebook with his logo on it after we initially met in 7th grade. He received it kindly and inspired me again.

Several years later, at a youth conference (I think I was in 9th or 10th grade) the speaker we were supposed to have, cancelled. Fortunately, someone had connections to an awesome backup speaker. Well before the program started me and a friend went to the bathroom. We walked past a spiffy guy in a bright blue suit and I loudly told him that I liked his suit, he chucked and complimented my.... coat... haha. Then when the program started, I realized the guy I had complimented was the speaker.... THEN I realized it was Jason Hewlett!! We laughed about our awkward complimenting interaction and then we were able to talk. He remember me as the "GumwrapperGirl" :) It was a tender mercy that we could talk again and I could hear another one of his inspiring messages..
Fast forward to this week. I just finished my freshman year at BYU. I have continued doing my gumwrapper art in my downtime (which, as a college student, is next to never) and I heard that Jason Hewlett would be speaking at my YSA stake FHE activity. Since the last thing I made and sent him isn't exactly the most crafty thing I have ever made, I wanted to show him my new skills ;) I made him a blue Christ portrait.
I was seriously giddy about this activity and SO excited to see him, my sister can attest. Before the activity started, I brought my Christ portrait to the room he'd be speaking in. He was in there getting ready and my heart started pounding! I am not one to get nervous, like ever, and so this was a new feeling haha. I handed him the portrait and said "I made this out of gumwrappers for you, because I am the gumwrappergirl!" He was excited to see me and we talked for a few minutes. He was kind & funny.
Just from talking to him I was already on cloud9. But then in the middle of his speech, he told the large audience the story of how we met, how I made him the notebook, and then made him this gumwrapper mural. He used me as an example of what he inspires people to become. It was an AWESOME feeling, and I am grateful that he made me feel good about a talent and gift that I have.
It was a special feeling to have the person who originally encouraged a gift that I had, give me a shutout for developing and continuing using that gift. :)
Just a great reminder to be kind to others and help them develop their gifts and talents. You never know the impact you can have on someone :)

Notebook --> Canvas Shift

I rarely do notebooks anymore, because I am so busy with canvases! But I like making canvases more because I hate the idea of using up all the pages in the notebook and not being able to use it anymore haha. Here are my latest canvases :)

It stinks having the Jordan River temple closed this year! That is my go-to temple.

Lazy blogger

I haven't updated this in a while. Here are some projects I did in 2016 that I never posted!

The front of the notebook has the provo temple- where my parents got married, and the back of the notebook has the infinity sign :) I made this after enjoying a week in Hawaii and got attatched to using the word Ohana. Families are forever!

Yuck. Sometimes I wonder why I associate with Utah fans....

Christmas Break- 7 chick flicks, 2000 gumwrapeprs, and a bottle of modge podge

I had an awesome winter break! I probably spent a little too much time with my gumwrappers, but I was able to make a lot of murals. :)

This (pic below) was my first 16x20 mural and it took some patience and a lot of time. I enjoyed making the wise-men and having Christ be the "light" that led them. I love Christmas!

Gumwrapper Jesus Canvas

Made this for my mom for Christmas. :)

I know my Savior lives!

I tried another one with different colors. It's weird but I love it and want to make more in different colors!
