How GumwrapperGirl Started

I usually get a strange look when I tell people I have over 12,000 gum wrappers saved in my bedroom, until I explain what I do with them. A following conversation usually includes how I came up with this idea.

When I was Primary age, my siblings would peel gum wrappers and stick them on their scriptures during church. I started saving wrappers for my siblings to use. My sister and her friends did an activity where they were decorating composition notebooks with paper, ribbon, buttons, etc, and I decided to put gum wrappers on one. My first notebook was for my mom. I'm grateful that moms cherish homemade gifts, because this notebook isn't something I'd like to claim as my work. I made a few more notebooks using the wrappers. Then I brought one to school one day. A few girls said they'd pay me if I would make them one too. That was the start of "GumwrapperGirl."

First Canvas

I have wanted to do a big canvas picture for a long time, so finally I did it. I entered the "Reflections" contest. The theme was, "Let your imagination fly!" I won in my mom's eyes, but the PTA-art-snobs apparently don't appreciate gum wrappers like I do.

Part of the reason I had time do complete this was because of my ACL/MCL tear. I decided to take advantage of the time I couldn't do anything but crafts!

About me:

~My name is Maci. I don't have a middle name.
~I am a sophomore at BYU: I am majoring in neuroscience, with minors in nutrition & Psychology
~I made this blog when I was like twelve, so please forgive me if you find anything I wrote from my (more) obnoxious stage of life.
~I am a Mormon: I know it, I live it, I love it.
~I'm a passionate fan of BYU, and have a 13 year old fan girl crush on Jimmer and Taysom Hill.
~I play sports. I played basketball, track, golf, and tennis for my high-school and wish I could've played soccer and lacrosse too.
~I play the guitar, piano, and sing, and it's on my bucket list to learn the harmonica and violin.
~If you don't like the Hunger Games, you don't understand it.
~Whoever created the "No Christmas music before Thanksgiving" rule isn't cool.
~My dream job is a motivational speaker/Neuroscientist. Trust me, they are related.
~I love my family and friends and I am very blessed for the life I live.
~My favorite colors are blue, pink, and gold. Purple, turquoise, and gray aren't bad either.

Injuries:
(I feel like this deserves it's own section)
8th Grade
-Broke my right arm playing soccer

9th Grade
-Had back surgery to fix spondylolisthesis

10th Grade
-Fractured my right hip playing soccer
-Broke my left hand/tore ligaments playing basketball
-Fractured my right tibia, which resulted in cellulitis
the blood infection, and then fractured the lower
part of my tibia, all playing basketball

11th Grade
-Bruised my neck vertebras and got a concussion playing basketball
-Fractured my right femur bone running track

12th Grade
-Tore my ACL and MCL while playing basketball
(I am still emotionally and physically recovering from this one.)

Freshman Year of College
-The hardware that was put in a year ago into my knee somehow shattered and got infected, along with a sprained MCL. In the surgery to remove the cyst covered pieces of knee hardware, the surgeons had to recut and reconstruct the MCL. . . . . AGAIN which  put me back at the beginning recovering for my MCL

Going into my sophomore year of college, I am the healthiest I have been in a LONG time. I still have almost daily pain either in my back or knee, but I am playing sports, running, hiking, lifting, and totally back to my normal life for  the first time in a LONG time. I LOVE MY BODY! <3 a="" able="" all="" and="" been="" font="" from="" gift="" god="" have="" heal="" i="" is="" it="" miracle="" mortal="" nbsp="" of="" problems.="" silly="" that="" these="" to="" truly="">
